Asbestos Abatement

OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1926.1101 covers the construction, alteration, repair, maintenance, or renovation and demolition of structures containing asbestos. Based on this regulation, to alter or remove Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) strict procedures must be followed. The general procedures should include the following:

Have a certified laboratory perform analyses on any ACM.
If the sample contains asbestos, it is time to hire a professional.
If the sample contains asbestos, it is time to hire a professional.
Documentation and forms will be submitted to and approved by the DEQ prior to beginning any work.
Prior to any removal, air tight containment will be constructed along with proper air flow controls and warning signs.
Certified workers will then remove the ACM using approved techniques while wearing OSHA approved Personal Protection Equipment.
The ACM material will be bagged and taken to a proper disposal site.
The contained area will be cleaned using High Efficient Particulate Air (HEPA) filtered vacuums and air scrubbers.
Based on the square footage of the ACM removed, the contained area will then be tested and cleared by a certified testing company.
Once cleared, the containment will be broken down.
Project documentation will then be submitted to the DEQ and provided to the property owner.
